Best Dog Food - 5 Quality Dog Foods for 2022
Share this review
There are so many different dog foods available on the market nowadays, choosing one that might be suitable for your dog can be mindboggling. Have a look at our opinion on the Best Dog Food below to help you make the right choice.
Most of the manufacturers of the foods selected produce a puppy range which will provide your pup with the essentials he needs for growth and general all round health. Do check though that your choice of puppy food does not contain added Vitamin C, as puppies should not receive this before a year old as it causes their bodies to stop producing their own.
Remember the golden rule, always check out that the ingredients are going to be suitable for your particular breed or individual dog.

1. Our Favourite Raw Based Complete
Jack Wolf
Premium Raw Dog Food
FEATURES:
Complete and balanced
100% British meats *
Clear ingredient labelling
Wide variety of flavours
Easy to store and feed pack sizes
We have recently had to change our favourite recommended raw dog food provider due to supply issues. This meant we had to trial other raw meat providers to find one that we were happy with.
So we applied all of our raw food priorities to finding a new supplier for our dogs' food and have chosen Jack Wolf range of dog food as our recommended supplier.
Our reasons for feeding raw have not changed. So having fed a home made raw based diet previously, we found the simplicity of the complete meal range reassuring to use when our lives became so much busier. It meant that we could change to a complete raw food and know that someone else had done the hard work in balancing the dogs needs.
The Jack Wolf labelling is clear and precise making it easy to select breed and individual dog appropriate range and flavours and with a wide range of meats to choose from you know that you can avoid any protein sources your dog might be allergic to and still feed a raw diet. Unlike some retailers, Jack Wolf stipulates all of the ingredients including the fruit and veg included, rather that just stating 'seasonal' on the ingredients.
The 'Working Dog' range with 100% meat, raw bone and fruits and veg has protein sources that are offal free for those dogs that cannot have this included in their diet (check the labelling for specific meats).
The 'Primal Instinct' range is veg free and can be used as a base protein for DIY raw feeders that do not need to excluded offal.

2. Our Favourite 'Next Best' to Raw Feeding
Forthglade Natural Wet Dog Food
Complete steam cooked dog food
FEATURES:
Complete and balanced
Natural Ingredients
Junk filler and artifical additive free
UK made with mostly British ingredients
Easy to store and use packs
Forthglade is our go to food for when we have forgotten to take the raw out of the freezer or we are away and cannot take the raw with us. But this food is a good quality product for everyday feeding.
With a large selection of flavours in its four ranges; Complete Grain Free, Gourmet, Complete with Brown Rice and complimentary meat only options, your dog is going to enjoy the variety of this food choice. The grain free options of the complete and the gourmet complete are ideal for dogs with grain allergies and a good balanced food for those owners that prefer to feed a grain free diet anyway.
The complimentary wet food range is a meat, vitamin and mineral base that can be used with your own selection of dog appropriate fruit and veg or a good quality dry food.
All in all this is a good quality wet dog food.
3. Our Favourite Dry Kibble
Burns Dry Dog Food
Burns Pet Nutrition
FEATURES:
Nutritionally balanced
Natural ingredients
Specialist diet ranges
Variety of protien source options
Vet recommended
We fed a Burns dry kibble before we transitioned to raw feeding and if we ever had to go back to kibble we would feed again.
Now with an increased range of dog food, Burns Pet Nutrition seems to have stayed true to its values of using natural, quality raw ingredients in its manufacturing.
The labelling provides clear understanding to the purchaser of the ingredients, the constituents and nutritional additives used, which for a manufactured dry complete food is extremely important. Also the additional ranges give extra options to owners with dogs with issues such as sensitive tummies and allergies.
In our opinion, a good quality kibble.

Wainrights Complete Mature Range
Wainwrights

Wainwrights is another manufacturer of quality wet dog food but also offer a wider range of options for more mature dogs.
Grain free, meat and brown rice versions are available with different flavours giving variety for your dog, whereas many manufactures restrict their mature ranges to just one or two options.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin are included to help joint condition and mobility.
A good quality wet dog food for your senior dog with the added bonus of a choice of menu.
5. Our Favourite for Fussy Eaters or Dogs with Dental Problems
Eden Semi-Moist
Eden Holistic Pet Foods
FEATURES:
Softer more palatable texture
UK made with British ingredients
Contains Prebiotics
Grain and gluten free
Superfoods included.
Eden Holistic pet foods manufacture a wide range of quality dog foods and treats. Their Semi-Moist food has been well thought out for those fussy eaters and dogs that may have dental issues and find eating dry crunchy kibble difficult.
The Semi-Moist range offers three flavours made with quality British ingredients and have prebiotics and superfoods incorporated into the recipe.
The manufacturer provides detailed labelling of the ingredients with clear information on composition, analytical constituents and nutritional additives, so that the you can make an informed choice as to whether the product is suitable for the dog.
Point to note: This product contains Green Lipped Mussel which may make this range unsuitable for breeds that require a low purine diet, such as Dalmatians. If you are unsure as to whether this might apply to your dog, check with your vet and/or breeder.
