1. Our Favourite for Anti Pull and a Good All Rounder
Sporn Non Pull Harness
Company of Animals
FEATURES:
Anti-pull
Light and comfortable materials
No movement restriction
Back link lead attachment
Machine washable at low temperatures
This harness is not to be confused with the “Halti No Pull Harness” from the same company.
I have recently taken my youngster back to this one as she started to pull too much in the “perfect fit” and my particular tearaway seems to be able to get the better of the harness.
The Company Of Animals Non Pull Harness really does do what it says on the tin without any movement restriction or harsh handling needs. The lack of a lot of material at the front/chest area provides little for the dog to lean into in its pull. The soft covered leg pieces fit between the front legs and the brisket and both parts culminate at the wither area where a lead is attached. As a result, when the dog pulls against the lead, the parts work together to gently squeeze/tighten the straps between the legs, stopping the dog pulling forward.
Why do we like it?
What I like most about this harness is the fact that it does the job of preventing the pulling without causing any restriction in movement and consequently any skeletal or muscular injuries are avoided. I have used this harness for 13 years and recommended it to numerous friends and acquaintances and most are still using them today. It is a good all round harness, but might not suit a large powerful breed.
2. Our Favourite for Comfort and Security
Perfect Fit Harness
Dog Games Shop
FEATURES:
Snug and secure
Individual piece sizes for perfect fit
No movement restriction
Back link attachment
Suitable for most breeds.
This is the harness I went with for our youngster in the first instance. It is secure and comfortable and because the harness comes as three separate pieces, you can purchase the required size for each piece making the “Perfect Fit”. Three different band widths with different lengths available for each means that you can use this harness from baby puppy size right up to adult and replace the individual pieces as needed and the fleece material means it is soft enough for any age dog.
The Perfect Fit Harness makes it more difficult for escapologists to release themselves. It is definitely not totally escape proof….yes, she got out once!. But due to its design and snug fit, it gives you more time to realise that they are attempting the manoeuvre and as a result get them back under control in good time. Spending the time to ensure you have the harness suitably snug without being too tight is time well spent and could be the difference between them getting out and not.
3. Our Favourite for Active Dogs All Day Wear
Flagline Harness
RUFFWEAR
FEATURES:
Three strap attachment for secure fit
Light and comfortable for all day wear
Back link lead attachment
Strong assistance handle
Hand washable
This is a lightweight but still robust and well made harness. It meets all the points I make in my tips for buying a harness, with an aluminium ring for attachment on the top of the harness, a lifting handle for use to help those older dogs, or even the younger ones that might need a hand up a particularly steep river bank or rocky climb and it has the V shape front with the strap between the front legs.
It is a three strap designed harness and likely to help with those escapologist canines. Providing the right size is purchased this would be a good all round harness. I would however like to see a padded flap under the middle clip attachment for more comfort. An added bonus on this harness is that it folds down very small if you want to take it off your dog for any reason whilst out on a day's trek.

4. Our Favourite for Good All Round Value for Money Harness
Front Range Harness
RUFFWEAR
FEATURES:
Secure, comfortable fit
No movement restriction
Back link lead attachment
Variety of colours
Hand washable
Again a good all round harness, with V shaped front and back lead attachment. No handle on this one
though so not so good for the older dog needing more assistance. A two strap padded harness for all day comfort and comes in a variety of colours. Both Ruffwear Harnesses I have recommended here are hand washable. Again as with the Flagline, attention to the correct fit is needed to ensure comfort, security and control.
5. Our Favourite for Small Dogs
Soft Harnesses
PUPPIA
FEATURES:
Secure but soft and light for small dogs
Back link lead attachment
Adjustable chest belt
Machine washable
Variety of colours
You really can’t go wrong with these soft harnesses for small dogs, providing of course they are the right size and fit for your pooch. They are lightweight and made of soft material for a snug fit. Back clip lead attachment, between the front legs fitting and adjustable straps result in a restriction free, comfortable harness. With a selection of great colours, your pup can’t fail to look cool in this harness and be safe and secure as well.
